In my last post, I wrote felt the need to denote a rimshot, so I wrote (ka-voom).
But that isn't what a rimshot sounds like. And so my question is: what does a rimshot sound like? I know I could have written (rimshot), but that somehow seemed too direct. I almost wrote (ka-ching)--but that is the sound of a cash register.
Oddly enough, Wiki does not seem to have the answer.

Sounds very Jackie Gleason, but may do the trick.
Va va voom is certainly acceptable standard English, but I think it has saucier overtones. Not Sophie Tucker, exactly, she's too Klezmer. Not Mae West, she's too sly. Maybe Sally Rand, or Gypsy Rose Lee. Oddly enough, Wiki has a definition, channeling the OED:
"Phrase coined by French footballer Thierry Henry meaning lively or passionate. Used by him in Renault Clio advertisements and subsequently added to the Oxford English Dictionary. The dictionary defines it as as "The quality of being exciting, vigorous, or sexually attractive", although they state that it dates from the 1950s."
A note says the definition is questioned. I'd agree, in the respect that I'll bet the phrase is older than the 50s.
I agree that this is a massive void in the collective knowledge of the Interwebs.
The best I can come up with is "ka-thump".
