Best Blogger Without a Blog

Now a word about the best blogger without a blog.

His name is Charlie Stough. I’ve never met this guy. Apparently he is located in Dayton, Ohio where, it appears, he is a newspaper copy reader. You remember copy readers? They were people who used to be employed by newspapers back before the suits figured out there is no money in quality control. I figure sleeve garters and a green eyeshade.

Anyway, he is proprietor of the “Bong Bulletin”—that’s “B-O-N-G,” as in “Burnt-Out Newspaperpersons’ Guild” (you remember the Guild? My, you are old). Or it may be just “Bong Bull,” as in “Papal.” He is retrograde: instead of a blog, he has nothing more sophisticated than an electronic newsletter (he still transcribes his copy with obsidian chips on sandstone).

No. 688 just hit my inbox. In addition to being retrograde, he is a bit weepy this month, but no wonder: he has to mourn the passing of both Art Buchwald and Mollie Ivins. But he does take time to remind us:

MEANWHILE, BACK TO UGLY FACTS. A titmouse is not a rodent. A bison may be a daughter. And a grouper may at times feel very, very alone.

Did I say he was a copy reader? Anyway, he is copyboy_1—at—hotmail—dot—com. Go ahead, fill up his mailbox, make his day.
