Reading about John (I was for it before I was against it) McCain do a number on General Casey at the Senate confirmation hearings today (link), I thought back to non-President Ed Muskie who flamed out in New Hampshire back in the winter of '72.
Way I hear it, the press corps nomenklatura had decided early on that Muskie was too volatile to be president (evidently he was a sore loser at poker) and they were ready, when events turned against him, to grease his fall.
I wonder if that will happen--no, I wonder if it is happening--to the vengeful, inflexible, irascible, intellectually dishonest Mr. War Hero, the GOP's showcase boy for 2008.
Update: maybe they won't need to (link). Hat tip, Carptebagger.
