"La-la-la-la-la!"

Obermann last night was making a big deal out of the fact that Alberto Gonzalez’ opening statement for today’s House hearing was almost identical to his opening statement a while back at the parallel Senate hearings (link). “Ninety-nine percent word for word what he said in writing to the Senate panel,” Obermann observed. Obermann didn’t press too deeply into the reasons but I offer two:

  • It’s a deliberate and calculated affront against the process: for all we care about the facts in this case, we might as well be sending you a ham sandwich.
  • It’s kid stuff: when the argument doesn’t go your way, you stick your fingers in your ears and start chanting “La-la-la-la-la!”

I really haven’t made up my mind as to which of these is the best inference and of course, they could perfectly well overlap.
