John Milton reports on the Libby pardon:
Okay, that stuff about “expecting their universal shout” may be a stretch.
So having said, awhile he stood, expecting
Their universal shout and high applause
To fill his ear, when contrary he hears
On all sides, from innumerable tongues
A dismal universal hiss, the sound
Of public scorn; he wonder’d but not long
Had leisure, wond’ring at himself now more...
Their universal shout and high applause
To fill his ear, when contrary he hears
On all sides, from innumerable tongues
A dismal universal hiss, the sound
Of public scorn; he wonder’d but not long
Had leisure, wond’ring at himself now more...
--John Milton, Paradise Lost X, 504-10

The same Miltonian verse could apply, to the prediction that the Iraquis would be strewing rose petals in our paths. Ever see a rose go "boom!"
Yours very crankily,
