When Senators Dare...

Fun fact: Michael (“SiCKO”) Moore is an Eagle Scout and a life member of the National Rifle Association, at least per this bio (link) (and thanks, Cindy). Which prompts me to wonder—how many United States senators are Eagle Scouts?

My first guess was: 20. On its “list of notable Eagle Scouts,” Wiki counts only 10: Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Thad Cochran(R-MI), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Mike Enzi (R-WY), Richard G. Lugar (R-IN), Ben Nelson (D-NE). Jefferson B. Sessions III (R-MI MS (thanks, Ivan))), Gordon Smith (R-OR) (also: John Ehrlichman, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, H.R. Haldeman, L. Ron Hubbard). I guess if you in the House of Representatives, you could get to 20, but I grant that that’s cheating.

The next question would be: of this list, how many are lying? Hard to say. On the one hand, every senator has an opposition research team on his trail, and smoking out a fake Eagle Scout ought to be enough to win you 40 virgins in paradise. On the other hand, we do live in an age of padded resumés…
