AP reports that Mitt Romney spent $40 million of his own money in his presidential race and got 294 delegates (link). That pencils out to $136,054 per delegate. That’s very likely more than the average American family holds in net wealth, including bank savings, home equity, and pension funds (link). Wonder how things would have been different if he had just given 294 families an endowment.
Update: or for each delegate, he could have built half a dozen seats at the new Yankee Stadium.
