Juan Cole does a memorable take-down of the Barack Hussein nonsense, and unless I miscount, he’s receiving more—at any rate, more favorable—response to this than anything he’s pushed out in months (link). I can relate: my mother’s maiden name was “Nordstrom.” No, no, this was pre-department store, and anyway, our “Nordstroms” didn’t have two coins to rub together. But I did rather cotton to its Viking associations, seeing as, after all, I was put on this earth to loot, burn and pillage. At the time, I rather resented the fact that I was stuck with the (as I saw it) bland, plain-vanilla name I had inherited from my father.
Later, it sank in on my that my mother’s mother’s name was “Lindquist”—and that maybe it was a corruption of “Linkovitch” and we were all really Jewish.
