Wow, these stories about commodity warfare are popping up everywhere. Yesterday, it was Tyler Cowen on platinum (with interesting comments). Today it is the NYT on church-stripping and FP on the same, with special attention to lead.
Makes me recall complaining in Egypt about how you could never find any toilet paper in the airport restrooms. “They’d just steal it,” I was told, though I was never sure who “they” were. Maybe that explains those guys who sits at the doorway selling tissue by the piece. Wonder if he still accepts dollars.
