I Suspected As Much

Why it's not hard to get a table at a good restaurant any more:

Although Wall Street accounts for just 5 percent of the jobs in New York, it provides nearly a quarter of all wages in the city.

Where did you get your facts, Buce? I'm not talking about Wall Street jobs and income. I'm taking about tables in good restaurants.

Go, call Babbo. Or Daniel. Or even Balthazaar. Or even a good, but not exceptional neighborhood place like Lusardi's on the Upper East Side. Tell 'em you want a table for two, tonight at 7:30.

No luck? Try tomorrow for 2 at 7:30. Still no luck?

At Babbo, you can get a reservation 30 days in advance if you start early, exactly —I mean exactly— 30 days ahead. Switchboard opens at 10 AM. You'll want to begin when they fire the starting gun. And you'll want to use your speed dial.

I guess it's all those out-of-work investment bankers who have nothing better to do in the morning than make reservations.

Crankily yours,
