A colleague at Yale, James R. Howe, recalled Dr. Ritchie’s knowledge of single-malt whiskies and his bravura demonstrations of the pharmacological effects of alcohol. He would begin an annual lecture by breaking an egg into a tumbler of whiskey. At the lecture’s end, Dr. Ritchie would display how the alcohol had denatured the protein in the egg white and then, with a flourish, would down the contents of the glass. That's from the NYT obit of J. Murdoch Ritchie, Yale biophysicist.
