It's the foyer at the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center in New York City. I was going to write "this is one of the world's great public spaces," but then it occurred to me--nobody gets more than 10 feet inside the door unless they disencumber themselves of a portfolio of George Washingtons. Is it then a "non-public space?" Compare the Piazza Navona in Rome or the Piazza San Marco in Venice--it may cost you 15 Euros to sit down, but at least you can walk through for free.
