We all tick off mental mileposts in life: first time you had to pay full fare at the movies; first time you did not get carded buying beer; first time you found yourself older than a cop. For women, I suspect you would add: first time you could not talk yourself out of a traffic ticket.
I'm running low on milestones now; it has been 16 years now that I have been older than the President. I am bracing myself to the day when I will be older than the Pope (there is an alternative, yes I know).
But here's one for which I did not prepare: a high school classmate of my daughter's just won a Nobel Prize. That would be Carol Greider, Davis (CA) HS, 1979, and heartiest congratulations to her and the whole team.
