I remember back in the agrarian days of my childhood when we didn't spring forward until the END of April. Daylight savings time meant summer.

I beg to differ with you, Buce. In my humble opinion, nobody has ever come up with a good reason for Easern Standard Time.

Who enjoys leaving the office only to discover that the day is ended?

Not I. I'm too cranky.

It dates to WWI I believe. Or not. Oh wait, that was when they instituted pub closing hours in Britain so the soldiers would be better ready to die or something. I know the school calendar in the USA was oriented towards farm household labor but DST appears to be now just an energy conservation thing. It may have been invented to keep kids safe going to school.
