WTF? Google Felony Service

Michael Froomkin reviews Gmail’s new “custom time” feature, including this zinger (from Google):

Pre-date your messages
You tell us what time you would have wanted your email sent, and we’ll take care of the rest. Need an email to arrive 6 hours ago? No problem.

Uh, last time I looked, that kind of thing was grounds for disbarment in California.

Google adds:

Make them count
Use your custom time stamped messages wisely — each Gmail user gets ten per year.

Ooh, that will help at sentencing time…

PS: Check calendar. Tee hee.

I Have No Idea Why I am Doing This

I have been not-tagged by an anti-meme. Michael Froomkin directs (link):

1. Grab the nearest book (that is at least 123 pages long).
2. Open to p. 123.
3. Go down to the 5th sentence.
4. Type in the following 3 sentences.
5. Tag five people.

Roger, copy that. Here goes:

His [Marc Antony’s] relations with Octavianus did not improve. Neither trusted the other. To counter that danger and outbid his rival the consul went further with his Caesarian and popular policy.

The book would be Ronald Syme, The Roman Revolution, which I quoted earlier. It is the summer of 44 BC. Caesar is dead; Brutus has fled to Greece. Against the entreaty of his family, the 19-year-old Octavianus (not yet Augustus) has taken up his role as heir. Octavianus and Marc Antony take the first tentative steps to size each other up.

Honest, it gets more interesting later.

Since I was not tagged, I will follow my non-tagger’s example and not tag.

Huckabee Watch

Michael (sic) Froomkin thinks this makes Mike (sic) Huckabee look like an idiot. I don't agree at all. I think this is precisely the kind of thing that can carry Huckabee to--well, whereever. I still can't imagine that we will really elect that guy, but I've saying since the get-go that he has an amazing ability to connect as down-home just folks.

Oh, and congratulations, Canada.
