Indian Money News

Miscellaneous India money news:

A Mumbai (Bombay) apartment sold for a bit over 9 million dollars last month, or $2,626 per square foot. Mumbai stands as the second most expensive city in the world for renting office space, behind London (Delhi is eighth).

Executives in India got a 14.8% pay hike over the past year, just a tad ahead of the previous year (but behind Sri Lanka, where the average increase was 15.3 percent).

Dancers at Indian weddings may command as much as $10,000 per performance. “Foreign pole dancers, belly dancers, Flamenco dancers and even Bollywood item girls…are setting the mood at high-profile sangeet ceremony and pre-wedding cocktail and stag parties,” the story reports.

Meanwhile, the Uttarakahand Forest Hospital Trust (link) is looking for a dissection hall attendant at $138 a month. Experience required (indeed, the ad seems to require experience as a cadaver, but I assume something is lost in translation). Considering that the state’s per capita income for 2001-2 was $318 per year, this actually looks like a pretty good job (link).
