Il Teatro Buce last night featured a showing of The Duchess of Langeais, a sort of a French Mawsterpiece Theatre costume drama drawn from a Balzac novella. It was okay, a bit slow, not nearly as bad as the Observer reviewer thought, nor as good as the New York Times'.
But we're Balzac fans and we decided it might be fun to read the story aloud in the original. A quick check of Palookaville's excellent second-hand bookshop turned up no copies, but then it occurred to us--online?
Sure enough. A momentary search turns up more than one version, including this Adobe file in which you can adjust the type size. So it looks like a Mr. and Mrs. Buce Readaloud first: a book to be read from a computer screen (yes, I know I could print it out, but why bother?). So it's in the queue. Behind some other stuff, but we'll keep you posted.
