He's thinking of items like "Pluto" and "Brontosaurus;" also "Triceratops," and I don't know whether he would extend to "phlogiston" or "pre-Copernicun solar system"--which wouldn't have been uttered, of course, until it was no longer operative. A Twitter commentator offers the name "arti-facts," which is good; meantime, I'm thinking that "Pluto Brontosaurus" would be a cool name for a weblog.Is there a word for a scientific fact that is accepted, only to be proven false some years later?
