Infrastructure Note

Driving up from Santa Clara early Saturday morning with light traffic, we marveled at how smooth was the stretch of I-80 from the Carquinez Strait up to the I-5 cutoff.  We could not resist a bit of sardonic speculation as to whether it's because this is the route the lobbyists take going back and forth from San Francisco to the capital.  Bumping through the potholes in our own lobbyist-free home neighborhood, we wondered what the new regime of deferred maintenance will do to the market for oversized SUVs.
